Advice On How To Buy Your First Guitar

by josh gerstner
Purchasing a guitar might be one of the most important investments you will ever make, and it’s critical for you to make the best verdict so you don't make an uninformed decision. The following are a few points to bear in mind before handing over the dough:

Just what of music do you like to perform? Right now there are hundreds of different guitar styles out there, which means it is essential to be aware of where to begin the process. For instance, in the case you hope to play like Eddie Van Halen, you will need to step away from the acoustic guitars and locate the amplifiers. Alternatively, if you want to play Pachelbel, you’ll want a classical guitar.

Irrespective of your musical inclinations, you’ll need to give your guitar a good listen well before you make a final move. In cases where you are not skilled enough to play a tune, invite a friend along who can play, or get one of the sales assistants to play the guitar for you. Don't worry about asking these guys to play a number of different instruments—if they enjoy what they do, they will be thankful for actively playing a role in getting you coordinated with the guitar of your choice. You should keep in mind that even though your inexperience has prompted you to search for the playing abilities of someone else, you ought to nevertheless pull up a chair and play the actual guitar on your own. Never get self conscious concerning generating a little bit of racket. Strum the open strings (“open strings” indicates that you are not using the fretting hand to apply pressure to any of the strings)—It's possible that you develop preferences between guitars just from hearing the same unfretted chord. Moreover, consider the thickness and contour of the guitar’s neck. You'll find that some necks are more thick or more wide than others; some necks can be more curved and flatter. When you form a chord, think about how your thumb feels against the guitar's neck. Does it feel playable?? And what about the size of the guitar? If you are 5’ tall and your fingers are the size of Smarties packets, you will want to think twice about buying a guitarron mexicano.

Establish just how much you want to pay. Thinking about your budgeting feels like a no-brainer, yet the principle of paying for what you get remains (arguably) a valuable principle. (I threw in “arguably” to qualify the argument of those who believe a few brand names are better than others even though the cost may be identical). In the event that you’re only willing to spend $150, you'll find that instrument’s structure will likely reflect a lesser quality in design as opposed to a $1000 guitar. You could pay above $4000 for your axe, but let’s face it—at this point in your playing, you're just a pig dressed in a suit. If you have the money, go for it. However if you are in a financial bind where you need a quality instrument but simply cannot shell out the equivalent of a down payment on a boat, instruments of reasonable quality begin around the $500 mark (in most cases).

If you are a tightwad like me, you’ll need to budget for the accoutrements that you will want so as to make your guitar-playing experience a good one. What do you want to do with your guitar? Do you want to perform? If so, your guitar may need a pick-up or a built-in expression system. If you’re a classical guitarist, you may be interested in buying a footstool. If you’re interested in an electric guitar, you’ll need an amp and an input cable. Will you need a music stand to hold sheet music? Do you want a guitar stand? Will you need a guitar strap? Think about these questions before you tally up the total cost of your investment. And don’t forget about the guitar case. Generally, new guitars come along with a free case (or the case is included in the retail price) but you might want to upgrade if the accompanying case is a soft-shell and you’d prefer a bit more protection than that. Are you going to play your guitar with your fingers or will you need some picks? As far as picks (a.k.a. plectrums) are concerned, they come in all measurements, colors, thicknesses, and designs. Select a wide variety so that you can experiment and create preferences. If you’ve made your selection, ask the sales attendant if he or she would be willing to throw in a free set of strings to go along with your guitar. They will typically oblige this request since they’ll be eager to close the sale. Lastly, regardless of what style of guitar you purchase, consider buying yourself a tuner. These can range in price from $10-$70 and are important for a number of reasons.

Happy shopping!

Singing and Using your Six string at the Time

by Jean Welles
Even when I first started teaching the guitar lessons, it was easy to see that some of the students had an immediate ability to sing and play songs at the same time. Other students had a horrible time trying to match their singing to their playing. Here are a few tips to help you sing and play at the same time.

Practice playing the guitar first. If you are struggling to change the chords, it will be impossible to match the singing and playing. Professional musicians have one tool in common, a metronome.

The next step is to work on the song. If you are not sure of the melody, get help. A teacher can be very helpful here. It's going to be easiest for you if you start with a song you know and one that is not too difficult to play. After you can master easier songs, then try songs with fuller chords and fancier guitar arrangements.

Next, try to put the singing and playing together at the same time. It helps to try the song at a slow tempo. In our Christian Guitar Course there is a slow practice session for each lesson that helps students learn each song. You may want to hum the song first, and then try the words.

One more suggestion has to do with your mental and spiritual expectations. Imagine that you can already sing and play the guitar with ease. I believe in a personal God and always suggest beginning with prayer.

Would you like to try praying? Just look around us, you can see there has to be a Creator that made this world. There is no way that the animal kingdom was randomly created by accident.

Everything in nature points to a Designer. Is it possible to actually get guidance through prayer? That is correct It may even be a means to help you with playing and singing with your guitar.

Remember to start with an easy song. Work on playing the guitar chords first. Learn to sing it in tune with good rhythm. After you are good on the guitar and singing it should be easy to do them together.

First Electric Guitar

by vasilis Isaakidis
Electric Guitar: The first Instrument

It was the radio industry in the 1920s that made possible electrical amplification and thus prepared the ground for the first amplified electric guitar. Loyd Loar is one of the main figures of the time. An engineer at Gibson Guitar Company, Loar developed an electric pick up for viola and string bass. In his design, the vibrations of the strings were carried through the bridge of the instrument. In turn, the magnet and coil (electric pick up) would register and pass those vibrations to the amplifier. The first actually electric guitar was commercially advertised by Stromberg-Voisinet company in 1928 which applied a similar pick up. The difference from Loar’s pick up was that the vibrations of the strings were carried through the soundbox and not from the bridge. In either case, the early innovators faced a problem. The signal was too weak. The first modern electric guitar called the “Frying Pan” was developed and marketed by George Beauchamp and Adolph Rickenbacker in 1932. The difference was that the electromagnetic pick up now registered the vibrations from the strings themselves. The result was a much stronger tone, a bigger signal.

The “Frying Pan” hollow body electric Hawaian style guitar, was played flat on the lap. The sound it produced was very unique and different from the acoustic sound and was slow to be accepted by most musicians.

Unsatisfied with the feedback, tonal quality and lack of sustain, many artists at the time started experimenting and using a solid blog of wood. Les Paul, already an accomplished acoustic guitarist, used a solid piece of pine wood and added the electric picks ups. He nicknamed it “The Log”. Thus, the first solid body guitar was born!

Leo Fender mass produced a solid body guitar in 1950 and two years later Gibson mass produced its first solid body electric guitar endorsed by Les Paul.

A new era had begun in the music making. For many, the potential of the electric guitar was to be limitless…To this day, few people can deny that…

The Quick and Easy Way to Learn Guitar Chords

by ryan deouza
Knowing the basic chords is paramount to your success as a guitar player, so learn them if you want to play at all. You can begin playing songs in a very short time once you learn guitar chords and how to advance from one to another. The most simple approach for playing chords is by using a chord diagram to play the guitar, and these are typically found in most music books.

You really should know how a guitar is designed before fully understanding chord diagrams. Your guitar's neck region will have a sequence of horizontal lines known as frets, along with the strings that symbolize the six vertical lines on that diagram. On a chord diagram, you'll see black dots on a picture of a guitar neck, showing you where your fingers go. For instance, in order to create a C major chord, you must position your first finger on the third string in the second fret while placing your third finger onto the second string on the third fret. You'll see O or X over each string on the diagram; don't play the strings that have Xs over them.

All music is formed on the basis of five essential chords. An acronym to describe the five chords is CAGED. You'll be able to play with these chords a bit once you have them down and memorized. Pay close attention in case a buzzing noise comes up while you strum a chord, as this means you aren't applying enough pressure to the string. When you start, you still have to develop calluses, so anticipate finger pain.

You'll have an easier time learning how to play guitar by pressing down on the strings if you have clipped fingernails, so be sure to do that. To hold the strings down correctly, you need to press the tips of your fingers against them and not just laying the tips of your fingers across the strings. With five minutes of practice each day, you will need to hold down all notes at the same time while you play and strum the chords with your thumb. You should also study the major chords on top of practicing, so you'll know them by heart. The Guitar Superstars system is one excellent resource that can help you learn guitar chords. You'll find it well worth your time.

Things Everyone Should Know About Learning Acoustic Guitar

by ryan deouza
It would be in your best interest to buy an acoustic guitar if you want to learn to play guitar. Acoustic guitars don't need any special equipment in order to actually produce sound, which makes it very portable and uncomplicated to use. To get started, you could easily spend 0 on a good acoustic guitar.

Instructor Keith Douglas says there are three important things to consider when buying an acoustic guitar. First, can you play it? Second, how accurate are the sounds it plays? Finally, how does it look? According to Douglas, you should be able to hold the strings down without causing your fingers to hurt. Find out whether or not you have to keep the guitar in tune constantly. In order to do that, pluck the string openly, and then do it again with the 12th fret held down; if they don't sound the same, then your guitar might need tuning. Another thing Douglas suggests is you should buy a guitar you really like looking at so you'll be more encouraged to practice on it. You can follow the link provided to see his article first hand: easy songs for guitar

Once you have found your guitar, now decide if you want to teach yourself how to play or perhaps take private lessons. It can cost a lot of money to take on private lesson, and you might find it easier or less costly to learn acoustic guitar by themselves. Various websites are available that are designed to teach you chords and guitar tabs. Once you are able to teach yourself a few of the simpler chords, you will be able to begin playing a chord or two.

One of the best resources for learning guitar online is Guitar Superstars. I can hgihly recommend checking it out.

Your acoustic guitar playing can benefit from figuring out how guitar tabs work. With guitar tabs, you can learn exactly what strings to hold down and which strings to leave open when you play a song to get its specific feel. The notation will also tell you what fret you should press the string down into. When you see and X or O over a strong, the X means don't play the note, and O means play it. Just search around the Internet for your favorite songs, and you'll find plenty of accurate and helpful tabs for it.

Tips on How to Properly Take Care of Your Guitar

by Casen Riggs
For a beginning guitarist there are many things you need to learn and knowing how to put on guitar strings is one of them. For someone who plays the guitar regularly, having strings break is a common problem. Having your guitar strings put on and tuned properly is a must. This is why it is vital to learn how to string a guitar.

It is best to be shown how to put on guitar strings by a teacher, but if that is not an option then getting the proper guide is a must. You will need to learn the correct methods of attaching the strings to the guitar and how tight they need to be before tuning. If you are a beginner, I recommend getting a guide that explains and teaches all the fundamentals for taking care of the guitar. The proper guide will not only teach you how to put on guitar strings, but explain how to tune.

There are a few tips that involve stringing the guitar. You can extend the life of your guitar strings by washing your hands before playing and wipe your strings after playing. Oil from your hands and fingers can be absorbed into the strings which causes them to break down quicker over time. When a string does happen to break, be sure to replace all the strings. The new string will sound completely different from the older strings. Its best to replace your strings regularly so they do not loose their brilliance and intonation. This all depends also on how often you play the guitar. Guitars played on a regular basis will need a proper routine tuning and maintenance.

Before you can be a great guitarist, you must learn the very basics. This is a common problem for many beginners. I had to replace my strings soon after I started playing and had a difficult time doing so. I eventually came across the right guide that not only showed how to put strings on a guitar but explained how to completely tune my guitar. I learned so much shortly after getting the guide than I learned months of attempting to teach myself. If you happen to be haunted by the string snapping plague then I suggested getting those strings put back on and tuned so you can continue your practice.

I recommend starting out with the guide at GuideToPlayGuitar.info. If you are trying to learn how to play the guitar, then it is a great way to learn for any beginner guitarist
