First Electric Guitar

by vasilis Isaakidis
Electric Guitar: The first Instrument

It was the radio industry in the 1920s that made possible electrical amplification and thus prepared the ground for the first amplified electric guitar. Loyd Loar is one of the main figures of the time. An engineer at Gibson Guitar Company, Loar developed an electric pick up for viola and string bass. In his design, the vibrations of the strings were carried through the bridge of the instrument. In turn, the magnet and coil (electric pick up) would register and pass those vibrations to the amplifier. The first actually electric guitar was commercially advertised by Stromberg-Voisinet company in 1928 which applied a similar pick up. The difference from Loar’s pick up was that the vibrations of the strings were carried through the soundbox and not from the bridge. In either case, the early innovators faced a problem. The signal was too weak. The first modern electric guitar called the “Frying Pan” was developed and marketed by George Beauchamp and Adolph Rickenbacker in 1932. The difference was that the electromagnetic pick up now registered the vibrations from the strings themselves. The result was a much stronger tone, a bigger signal.

The “Frying Pan” hollow body electric Hawaian style guitar, was played flat on the lap. The sound it produced was very unique and different from the acoustic sound and was slow to be accepted by most musicians.

Unsatisfied with the feedback, tonal quality and lack of sustain, many artists at the time started experimenting and using a solid blog of wood. Les Paul, already an accomplished acoustic guitarist, used a solid piece of pine wood and added the electric picks ups. He nicknamed it “The Log”. Thus, the first solid body guitar was born!

Leo Fender mass produced a solid body guitar in 1950 and two years later Gibson mass produced its first solid body electric guitar endorsed by Les Paul.

A new era had begun in the music making. For many, the potential of the electric guitar was to be limitless…To this day, few people can deny that…

Learning to play the electric guitar can be a wonderful experience and when you succeed you will feel great being able to play all kinds of music. The first mistake most beginners do is attempt to teach themselves completely. This is extremely hard to do as you do not have the proper instructions on such things as finger placement and strumming techniques. If having a teacher does not fit your schedule or budget then download guitar lessons to your computer. These online guitar courses allow you to practice when you have the time and motivation without the worry of other tasks or paying for a private tutor lessons.

Online electric guitar lessons will include everything needed to master the guitar. Most people think that this method is not up to par with a real life teacher but that is simply not true. When you download guitar lessons they come equip with instructional videos of your teacher who show you the right techniques like holding the guitar or strumming. Videos are a great way to learn since they can be paused mid way into the lesson which allows you extra time to practice the method before moving on.

When I started out learning the electric guitar, I did not have the time to fit guitar lessons into my schedule. I tried some learning books from my local music shop but I still struggled on my guitar adventure. I eventually stumbled onto a great online course with videos that demonstrated even the very basic essentials to playing the electric guitar. I learned more on my first video than I ever did from months of attempting it myself.

I recommend starting out with the guide at GuideToPlayGuitar.info. If you are trying to learn how to play the guitar, then it is a great way to learn for any beginner guitarist

Learning Chords Guitar

Learn to Play Guitar Chords - 3 Simple Steps
by John Amherst
So you have you have decided to learn to play the guitar! You may be sitting there, with a note book and a guitar in hand, wondering how exactly you should go about doing this.

1. Patience is a virtue! As frustrating as it may be to learn all those chords and chord transitions, you are going to need patience. When you start getting frustrated, put the guitar down for awhile, and continue later in the day or the next day.

2. Start off by learning basic open chords like C,G,A and D. There is plenty of guides you can find online or at music shops that will help you along. They may take some time to learn, but stick with it, practice every day, and make sure you can play them easily before moving on to chord transitions.

3. Look for some of your favorite song tabs and try to play them. Try to start off with some of the easier songs and move your way up. Try to play the song and play along with it as best you can. I know this may be difficult at first and may sound horrible but after awhile you will be able to play along with ease.

So there you have some of the steps that will help you learn guitar chords. It really is all about the dedication and patience you have, if you get frustrated as everyone has at some point, just take a break and continue another day. As they say, Rome was not built in a day! As with learning to play guitar, you will not learn overnight, but if you stay dedicated, then you will be playing like a pro in no time!
