Learn About Different Styles Of Guitar Playing

There are many different styles of guitar playing as there are many different types of guitars. To become a good guitarist you should learn as many different styles and techniques as possible. But first thing first. Don't get ahead of yourself. If you're just starting out, focus on the basics. No matter what style you want to learn, the basics for all are always the same.
Different styles use different techniques and musical elements, but at the beginning you don't have to concern yourself with that. That will come later. To move on to these things, you first have to understand the basics. It's important to not get ahead of yourself.
When you're ready, you will have lots of choices: acoustic, classical, electric, blues, jazz, country, and so on. Each of those styles incorporates different techniques. From fingerpicking and strumming, to power riffs and muting techniques.
With acoustic guitar you will get familiar with strumming, chords, fingerpicking, and so on. Rock guitar will be more focused on power chords, power riffs, pedal effects, and plectrum technique. Classical will teach you arpeggios and classical fingerpicking. Blues is about blues notes, blues scales, and blues chord progressions. Jazz is improvising – jazz chord progressions, phrasing and ornaments. And country, of course, has its chicken picking techniques. We could go on and on with this, but we'll stop here. Guitar offers a lot of versatility.
As you can see, there are many different styles and the more you know, the better guitarist you will be. However, it's important to remember that it all starts with the basics. So before you move on to any particular style, take your time and master the basics.
